Natha participated in Sund Livsstil messe – 27-29 September 2013
by Arthur Lederer
Once a year, for the last 28 years, Sund Livsstil gathers around 200 exhibitors and 20,000 visitors who come together for a weekend fair dedicated to a healthy life style.
Of course, everybody wants to be healthy. But what are we doing about it? Is it enough to just eat whatever, live however, and when the body gets sick to just go to a doctor to fix whatever is broken?
Peter Mikkelsen, organizer of Sund Livsstil messe, doesn’t think so: ‘’Our health is our own responsibility, each and every one of us. I started this fair to make sure that the public is aware of ALL the options they have for taking care of their health; to offer an alternative to the governmental health insurance system.’’
A dozen years ago one could find in this fair a great interest in healthy food. Organic food and raw food were the trend. However, the interest is shifting, says Peter: ‘‘in the past 5 years there is a notable movement of the attention towards the Body-Mind paradigm regarding health. People are realizing that relaxation and a harmonious emotional and mental state are very important for health. In this fair we now promote also awareness of this issue and we challenge the visitors to do something to make themselves feel better and more happy.’’
It is therefore not at all a surprise to see more and more Yoga schools and other spiritual centers among the exhibitors in the Sund livsstil Messe. Natha Yogacenter is amongst the first of these spiritual centers - being a prominent exhibiter in this fair since 2010. Long before it became a trend, the teachings of Yoga, as taught in Natha, have explained that the human structure is composed of several structures – physical, energetic, emotional, super mental and spiritual. A disharmony at any level affects the others as well – and so, a sick thought can create a sick body, so to speak.
As Peter says ‘’As a society we have been moving up the levels of the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, but we now discover that we have neglected some needs in the lower levels of the pyramid – and we need to take better care of our bodies, our emotions, our relationships etc. Therefore, schools of Yoga and Tantra like Natha can make an important contribution.’’
Soren Gannik is an engineer and Yoga teacher in Natha: ‘’there is a misunderstanding about health today – people see health as the absence of disease. In fact health is a state of harmony which is totally natural. Its only when we lose the harmony that illness appears. People try to cure the sickness – but the more you try to fight it the stronger it gets. Instead, we should aim to achieve a deep state of harmony – then disease will be a thing of the past, together with many other problems. The source of harmony, of the healing power is in us, in our hearts. It’s just a matter of learning how to locate and access it. That is what natha has to offer, what people can learn to do in our courses, that is why natha is here in this fair. ‘’
Natha’s stand is easy to recognize – it is the only stand which has a large pyramid built into it. ‘’The pyramid is a structure which focuses the energy in a deeply beneficial and harmonizing manner. Researchers have built a small pyramid of a wooden frame and placed a plate of fruits in it, while placing another plate right next to the pyramid but not under it. The fruits not under the pyramid rotted in a normal pace, within days, while the fruits under the pyramid stayed fresh much longer. In the fair people are invited to come and meditate under the pyramid, benefitting of this deeply nurturing energetic effect.’’ Says Soren.
Ines Honfi is a teacher of Yoga and Tantra in Natha as well as a renowned painter. I see her meditating under the pyramid holding hands with a woman in her 30’s, visitor in the stand. After the meditation they speak about their experience. I patiently wait before approaching them.
Ines: ‘’I am using for the meditation a piece of music which is chosen because it awakens in the being a deeply harmonizing state. I explain to the meditator how to focus and open up to this state and then meditate together with her to help feel this state as deeply as possible. Some people chose to meditate on happiness, some on courage, some on love – these are all aspects of our inner harmony, all of them putting us in contact with an aspect of our selves.’’
I asked her how she feels guiding such a meditation. ‘’It’s very fulfilling. I feel myself as a channel, just giving to the person in front of me, and in the same time it uplifts me very much. People are feeling so much in just 7 minutes of meditation, and some are really transformed by it.’’
I asked the woman who meditated with Ines what is her experience. She identified herself as Katrina and happily said ‘’we meditated on the state of expansion of the consciousness. I felt very welcome and accepted. I felt open and the music gave me the feeling of being brave, of getting stronger, connected with myself and the now. I felt the energy circulating through the hands in a circuit between Ines and me. I felt myself just being in the present moment.’’
Close by to the pyramid also stood shelves covered with books and DVD’s – all bearing the logo of Natha Publishing House. Vasilius of the Natha Publishing House stood over the books, engaging in deep and intense discussions with many curious visitors. ‘’our aim here is to offer the healthiest solutions to people. In the case of our books and DVD’s they originate in the oldest and most safe healthy solutions, so any true searcher concerned with self-development will find truly valuable spiritual information here.
‘’In many open-minded visitors I find not only curiosity but even a state of wonder. Many people are amazed that there can be a systematic approach to domains of human life like couple relationships – but this is exactly what is given by the bookTantric Path of Loveby Gregorian Bivolaru or the DVDUnveiled Secrets of Polyamorous RelationshipsBy Advaitananada. This wise systematic approach guarantees the success and the long-lasting happiness. So for me it is a great adventure and challenge to bring these products closer to people's horizons of expectation, because it is like speaking of miracles, in which few believe, yet they are now available for all.’’
Vasilius, an experienced astrologist, also offered visitors to the stand the benefit of an astrological consultation – providing them with useful guidance to find the harmony and happiness in their lives. ‘’Tantric Astrology is offering the unique chance to know your soul and this knowledge means, at the same time, to awaken the soul; and because this type of astrology focuses mainly on how to grow spiritually and how to bring the highest aspects into one's everyday life, people receive it with great inner silence and contemplation.’’
Should anyone feel tired or hungry in the fair, surely they would have found their way to the cafeteria of Øksenhalen (the venue of the fair), which this year dedicated an entire area to Copenhagen’s vegetarian restaurant - Ambrosia’s Have. Ambrosia is located in the building of Natha and its staff is comprised in part by students of Natha. Selena Andersen, the coordinator of the team of vegetarian cooks explains that learning in natha’s courses about the value of vegetarian diet, it seemed natural for her to create a venue which will offer vegetarians a place to eat and will also prove that vegetarian and healthy food can also be extremely delicious. I find Selena presiding over a steamy pot of potato soup, making sure that all dishes and salads are fresh and juicy. ‘’I see it as a mission to spread the knowledge and direct experience of the great benefits of healthy food combined with a harmonious eating environment, stimulating and fulfilling all of the senses. In Ambrosia’s Have we want to make people more aware of the role that food and the way we eat has in the maintenance of health. The lack of knowledge of this is one of the main reasons of sickness today.’’
All around are over a dozen tables, occupied by people happily eating. On each table I see a small arrangement of vegetables, ornamenting the table, with small notes pointing out the health benefit of each vegetable. Selena says ‘’It is a great joy that we got to host, feed and nourish the visitors of the fair in this way; to offer people a break and something really healthy and delicious to eat. I am very grateful for peter and the Øksenhalen staff who invited us to serve food in the fair – making this fair a more complete experience for the public.’’
